Autonomous mobile robots navigate on their own using lidar, cameras and onboard maps, unlike older automated guided vehicles that follow wires, tape or reflectors. They move goods in warehouses and factories, pick orders alongside people, carry pallets, deliver food on sidewalks and clean commercial floors.
The segment spans several business models. Some companies sell or lease robot fleets (Locus Robotics, MiR, OTTO, Geek+), some sell complete storage-and-retrieval systems in which robots are one component (AutoStore, Ocado, Symbotic, Exotec), and some run robots as a delivery service (Serve Robotics, Starship).
