Walker S2 Review (3★)
UBTECH Robotics · Humanoid
Editorial
Walker S2 is China’s industrial humanoid bet: high DoF, hot-swap energy, and big domestic order headlines. Treat production claims as directionally important but audit them before CapEx. The hot-swap idea is more honest than pretending 2.5h is a full shift. Outside China, support and software openness remain the adoption blockers — not the joint count on the datasheet.
Pros
- 52-DoF full-body design with dexterous hands targets factory dual-arm work, not just walking demos
- Autonomous hot-swap battery is the right systems answer to 2.5h on-board energy limits
- Reported multi-hundred-million RMB industrial orders signal real OEM demand in China auto/logistics
- Co-Agent fleet messaging acknowledges multi-robot cells instead of single-hero robots
Cons
- Independent Western verification of “mass production” claims is thinner than BMW/GXO case studies
- 2.5h battery still needs flawless hot-swap logistics or cells go dark mid-shift
- Closed stack and regional support limit non-China integrators
- 15kg payload is mid-pack — Apollo’s 25kg target looks better on paper for totes
